Recently, we have been enjoying the wintertime in Yamanashi Prefecture. Most tourists come to Yamanashi during the summer, when they have longer holidays and can climb Mt Fuji. But isn’t it more beautiful when there is snow on the summit? This classic image of Mt Fuji is best in the winter, and there are also many winter events to enjoy during this season. As one of the first winter events, we went to Lake Yamanaka, one of the Fuji Five Lakes, to see the Yamanakako Art Illumination.
We arrived just before the sun set, and could see the silhouette of Mt Fuji in the distance as we walked towards the park.

The park was amazing, full of bright colours and shapes made with the lights. We also visited the garden, which is always open by the lake and is very European and elegant.
Further into the park there is a labyrinth and a makeshift temple, where you can get your love fortune. A nice spot for couples!
There is also a small restaurant where you can get some warm cocoa and food, and stay warm by the heater.
Lake Yamanaka is a great location at any time of year, but I would particularly recommend coming to see this illumination. Visit the Fuji area and take in the Christmas spirit!
