Golden Week is a holiday that everyone in Japan looks forward to. This year, we had a five-day holiday, and there were so many different choices for what to do! Although many people chose to travel around Japan, for me, it was the perfect opportunity to try something I had always wanted to do in Yamanashi - an onsen higaeri! After all, after all the busy work in April, there is nothing better that relaxing in the hot springs for a day.
We were recommended Hotel Shinko by a friend. Located in Isawa Onsen, it wasn't too far of a trip. Our day trip plan was for onsen and dinner - an all you can eat buffet.
First, we went into the onsen. Hotel Shinko is famous for its wine bath, reminiscent of Koshu Wine and reportedly very good for the skin! Although white wine is more famous in Yamanashi, the bath is red, and very warm. It reminded me of mulled wine in the winter! You can see pictures of the baths here - obviously we aren't allowed to take pictures inside!
They also have an outdoor bath, which is perfect for when the steam from the indoor bath gets a little too hot. There is a view of the beautiful garden through the wooden fence, but the garden looks much better when you leave the bath and go outside to relax even more.
We booked for the dinner at five pm, so after almost an hour in the hot springs, we went over to the restaurant. My friend warned us how good the choices were, but we didn't quite realise until we got there quite what she meant. I can't list all the different foods, but here are some photos of exactly how much I could manage to eat!
I forgot to take pictures of my sashimi course as well! We was very satisfied after all that food - so satisfied that we went back into the onsen one more time! I would definitely recommend Hotel Shinko for anyone in Yamanashi looking for a relaxing hot spring experience!
