Travel Back in Time to 16th Century Japan!
Event:
2019 will mark the 500th anniversary of the date that Takeda Nobutora, father of the famous samurai Takeda Shingen, built a castle town around his mansion (present day Takeda Shrine). This was a period of great cultural and intellectual exchange between the cities of Osaka and Edo (present day Tokyo), and the castle town built by Takeda received its own share of artists, scholars, and actors in the midst of their travels. Thus, what we know and love today as Kofu City was, in the 16th century, known instead as "Little-Edo" for its metropolitan-like hustle and bustle. A momentous and thrilling period in history, indeed!
The 2017 Little-Edo Summer Festival in Kofu City recreates the atmosphere of this moment in the past. On August 11th, come to the center of Kofu City in order to eat, play, and celebrate like a samurai! And remember to bring your yukata if you would like to stay cool in the summer heat!
