Nouveau, or vin de primeur, is the name
given to wine sold in the same year in which they were produced, only a few
weeks after the grapes were harvested. The most known wine of this kind is the
Beaujolais Nouveau, usually put on sale on the third Thursday of
November, when a big festival is held in the area.
In Yamanashi, nouveau wine start being consumed on November 3rd and
this special day is celebrated in the entire Isawa Onsen area. The countdown
starts on November 2nd at night, when a festival is held on the plaza
in front of Isawa Onsen Station, and at midnight all participants
make a big toast with the nouveau wine!
Several stores, restaurants and hotel take part on the event and exclusive wine
glasses will be sold at hotel lounges. Come and have fun at Isawa Onsen while
enjoying a good glass of wine!
On November 3rd, Katsunuma will hold its 31st Nouveau Wine Festival. A
shuttle bus will depart from Isawa Onsen station, taking the visitors to
Katsunuma Budo no Oka, where the event will take place. At Budo no Oka you can
find restaurants, onsen, art gallery and of course the best wine from the
region. Tickets will cost 1000 yen, with the event wine glass included, and with
this glass you can sample several Katsunuma's nouveau!
