Glamping in Yamanashi - HOSHINOYA Fuji

By Yuri Yuhara

It is not necessary to give up on comfort, luxury and high quality service to get in touch and enjoy the best of the nature. That is the main idea of glamping, short for glamorous camping, a modern style of camping that combines several amenities and technology to offer traditional adventures and camping related activities in astonishing natural sceneries.

And it is exactly the worldwide famous and one of the most beautiful landscapes in the country that you can enjoy at Japan´s first glamping resort, HOSHINOYA Fuji. Located nearby Lake Kawaguchi, in the middle of the forest and surrounded by almost untouched nature, HOSHINOYA Fuji is part of Japan´s leading luxury resorts and hotels operator, Hoshino Resorts, which owns the brands HOSHINOYA, KAI, RISONARE (check out our review from Hoshino Resorts RISONARE Yatsugatake here) and several other lodgings, all of them well known by its luxurious accommodations allied to the high quality service and hospitality, representing the traditional Japanese Omotenashi.

In order to create an atmosphere isolated from the outer world, after the check in at the reception located in the base of the mountain, where guests receive the instructions and a welcome pack with camping tools and amenities, to access HOSHINOYA Fuji lodgings it is necessary to ride one of the internal vehicles operated by the staff.

Instead of the traditional and usually not so comfy camping tents, guests stay at cabins from where it is possible to enjoy the sight of Mt. Fuji. The minimalist design aims to blend in with the forest that surrounds the cabins and provides a relaxed mood.

The activities guests can enjoy at the resort changes according to the season, as do the menu. The Glamping Masters, specialized staff who assist the guest during all the stay, give their advice and information to help guests to choose and plan the activities they want to do, that can be held inside or outside the resort dependencies.

The activities may vary from coffee brewing, pizza workshop at the outdoor dining space or relaxation by the campfire to hikes through Aokigahara Forest, canoeing at Lake Kawaguchi or even watching a professional hunter in action.

Using local ingredients (including gibier meat provided by hunters in the area, for those willing to try it) to make simple but savory dishes and offer the camping style dining experience, besides the option of dining at the communal hall from where it is possible to enjoy the nature, in-room dining, for those who want to enjoy the comfort of their rooms, and outdoor options, for those who want to be closer to the nature, are also available.
