Leisure, Art, and Fine Dining at Kobuchizawa Art Village Resort & Spa

by Yuri Yuhara

As featured in the previous post, Hokuto is home to an extensive private collection of Keith Haring's works. However, the region offers much more than the art museum.

The Nakamura Keith Haring Collection is part of the Kobuchizawa Art Village Resort & Spa, a complex that also hosts  the luxurious Hotel Keyforest HOKUTO, the Relaxation Spa KEYFOREST / MISEN, the KEYSPRING Steak House, the KOBUCHIZAWA Country Club, and many other art and fine dining locations all in one place.

We visited the Hotel Keyforest HOKUTO and had the chance to take a look at some of their rooms. The building, designed by the same architect who designed the Nakamura Keith Haring Collection, Atsushi Kitagawara, has only 6 rooms, each with a unique design. Named after the elements of nature using words from the Jomon period (14,000 BCE to 300 BCE), the rooms are furnished with the highest quality items, rigorously selected to create a classic yet cozy atmosphere, and they are ideal for adults who want to connect with nature without giving up elegance and comfort.

From the lar
ge windows of the rooms you can admire not only Mt. Fuji but also the Yatsugatake Mountains and, at night, the beautiful starry sky and, depending on the room selected, this view can be admired even while relaxing in the luxurious bathtub.

A number of works of art, including some by Keith Haring, are displayed in the shared spaces - such as the corridors and the reception area - and on the ground floor is a whiskey bar with a beautiful terrace, which guests oftentimes use during breakfast time. For other meals, the Steak House KEYSPRING restaurant offers a variety of options with award-winning local ingredients such as Koshu Wine Beef.

In addition to the accommodations, guests can also enjoy various activities offered at the Kobuchizawa Art Village Resort & Spa such as a golf course, tennis court, horse riding, trekking, fishing, visiting the Nakamura Keith Haring Collection, and many others.

The architecture, the feeling of intimacy and exclusivity, the small number of guests, the beautiful landscapes - spending a night at Hotel Keyforest HOKUTO is certainly a unique experience.
