News - The Secrets of Yamanashi Prefecture

by Kendra Evans

In March of this year, the Yamanashi Tourism Department published "The Secrets of Yamanashi Prefecture", a manga written for children to introduce them to the secret charms of their home prefecture.

The book follows a class of fifth graders, who will soon receive a visit from some American students from Iowa. Iowa and Yamanashi have a long sister-state relationship, and so the Yamanashi students want to show off the best Yamanashi has to offer. But they soon realise they will need to study Yamanashi themselves if they're going to impress the Iowan students...

This book follows the children as they look into Yamanashi's history, agriculture, tourism, local industries and nature. It is full of information, including full page columns on important people and places. There is also an English printed version, for foreign visitors.

For those who can read Japanese, the full edition is available to read online here: https://kids.gakken.co.jp/himitsu/l02/

If you would like to know more about this book, leave us a message! Have fun discovering the secrets of Yamanashi!
